We are Amigos del Mar (Friends of the Sea) and we are more than a foundation, we are a community formed by 55 families from Tierrabomba Island, plus hundreds of collaborators and volunteers from around the world which want to make a better world through sport, education and ecology.
On the last ten years, Foundation Amigos del Mar, has coordinating several social programs, included educational reinforcement, water sports training, recycling, entrepreneurship, beach cleanings, students sponsorship and international volunteering. Since the beginning of the pandemic, all of those program have been replaced for a single mission: To bring groceries and hygienic materials to the population
More than half of the Tierra Bomba homes are in extreme poverty conditions, and a few less in a moderate poverty. Although the island is located beside the touristic Cartagena de Indias, it has not basic services as aqueduct, natural gas or sewerage and its electric system is strongly unstable. Furthermore, the town is suffering erosion due to sea level rise. There are more socio-historical deficiencies that afflicted the life-quality of a population which economy is mostly informal-subsistence economy (fishing, boat transportation, tourism and peddling). On a familiar level, many cases of abandonment of the home by one or both parents are detected.
Since last march, Tierrabomba population is confined and no one is authorized to enter or leave the island. Due to dictated confinement and tourism interruption, people from the island haven't any kind of economic activity, and they are totally dependent on outside assistance to get the basic products for subsistence.
With the support of the Colombian army and the Cartagena police, we have a supply route to the island from the mainland of Cartagena. Now, we need help to go shopping at the market.
