General information

Currents of Life is a short documentary that follows the journey of water from the source of the Ter River in the Pyrenees to the protected marine ecosystem of the Medes Islands.

We are raising €3000 to fund underwater filming, travel, and post-production to complete the film.

At the very least we have to raise 2000 euros for a successful crowd funding campaign.

3000 euros euros would cover more in the way of underwater footage and therefore our ultimate goal.

The project will be shared through online platforms, film festivals, and environmental and educational organisations, with the aim of raising awareness of how inland ecosystems directly affect marine life.

We are now entering the production phase, and your support will allow us to capture the footage needed to bring this story to life.

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign

Main Features and Goal of the Campaign:
Currents of Life is a documentary film exploring the relationship between mountain landscapes, freshwater systems and the Mediterranean Sea.

The story begins at the source of the Ter River high in the Pyrenees and follows its journey through Catalonia until it reaches the Mediterranean near the protected waters of the Medes Islands.

Although often seen as separate environments, rivers and marine ecosystems are deeply connected. The health of coastal waters and marine biodiversity is strongly influenced by the rivers that flow into them.

Through landscape cinematography, underwater filming and interviews with people who know this environment well, the film will highlight these connections and explore how mountain water ultimately shapes the life found in the sea.

Goal of the Campaign:
The goal of this campaign is to raise funds to support the production of the documentary.
Contributions will help cover essential filming, travel, diving logistics and post-production required to complete the film.

By supporting this project, backers will help bring attention to the ecological links between rivers and marine environments and help share the story of this unique region of Catalunya with a wider audience.

Why this is important

Rivers, mountains and the sea are often thought of as separate environments, but in reality they are closely connected.
The health of coastal ecosystems depends greatly on the rivers that flow into them.
The Ter River carries water, nutrients and sediments from the Pyrenees across Catalonia before reaching the Mediterranean.

These natural flows help shape the coastal environment and influence marine life along the shoreline.
Near its mouth lies one of the most important marine reserves in the western Mediterranean: the Medes Islands.

This protected area is well known for its rich biodiversity and is an important example of how marine ecosystems can recover when properly protected.

By following the journey of the river from the mountains to the sea, Currents of Life aims to help viewers better understand these connections and appreciate the fragile balance between freshwater systems and marine environments.

The film also aims to contribute to environmental awareness by showing how landscapes, water systems and marine life are part of the same natural story.
