Mexican journalists seek support for book project
JULY 08, 2012
Rio Grande Digital
A collaboration of Mexican journalists, press industry groups and others — including the Juarez Journalists Network, is raising money to publish a book that includes the stories and biographies of 126 fellow journalists who have been killed or disappeared in recent years.
The 300-page book, to be titled “No Se Mata la Verdad Matando Periodistas” (“You Don’t Kill the Truth by Killing Journalists) will be distributed free at the next book fair in Guadalajara. The articles have been written by journalists from various media throughout Mexico and abroad.
“Mexico now living a situation of overwhelming violence affecting especially the group of journalists . Risking his right to report and our right to know. Attacks on the Mexican press and its facilities are now infamously known around the world,” the group, Nuestra Aparente Rendición (Our Apparent Surrender) says on its website.
In addition to cash donations to support the book’s publications, the group also is seeking collaborative support in publicizing it. Donors will be acknowledged in the book or given free copies of the book.

Article 19, the international organization that supports press freedom, noted last month that Mexico has initiated legal reforms in an effort to reduce the violence against the country’s journalists.
“This federalisation, as it is currently understood, represents a step forward in terms of strengthening legal security for those who are targeted for exercising their freedom of expression. It also implies a greater commitment by the federal authorities who to date have done little to address the pressing needs arising from violence against the media in Mexico,” the organization says.

If you could help us to translate the book to English, Catalan, French or other languages, that would be great!
We need journalists, bloggers, twitters, people with public visibility in order to spread news about the project and its importance.
