🌿 In a forgotten village between mountains and wind—Villanueva de Fios—there is an abandoned village in ruins where a possibility now opens up.
The Turtle Project (https://proyectotortuga.org/) was born with the calm and persistence of the animal that gives it its name. We want to rebuild the village not as a property, but as a shared home, with a common house for those who believe in another way of inhabiting the world.
We don't just want to restore a building; we want to regenerate bonds, plant roots, and share refuge with those seeking a simpler, more dignified life, woven into the environment.
We live on a farm of more than 10 hectares that houses six ruins, a granary, a centuries-old forest—the "Bosque Viejo"—and a stream that sings year-round. In this hidden corner of Asturias, the main house—still standing—is the heart of the project. There we want to build our Common House: a space of care, creation, and community.
🐢 Slowly but surely. Will you help us build this common home?
Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign
🏡 What will the Common House be?
- An open, warm, and vibrant home.
- A space for shared living, where we can live together with respect and tenderness toward people and nature.
- A place to host meetings, workshops, celebrations, and mutual learning.
- A seed of conscious repopulation, based on ecology, care, and collaboration.
- An open door to those who dream of a different, slow, and possible future.
Why this is important
This project was born from the desire to live differently: simpler, more dignified, more interwoven. We are committed to a way of living that nurtures human and natural connections. We want to repopulate through meaning, through roots, through collaboration.
The Common House will be a meeting point for people interested in community living, rural self-sufficiency, bioconstruction, food sovereignty, and regenerative culture. It is aimed at those seeking to learn, contribute, accompany, or be inspired by collective processes of transformation.
This crowdfunding is motivated by the need to cover the costs of renovating the main house—structure, roof, basic facilities—to ensure a safe and habitable space that supports everything else.
Team and experience
Proyecto Tortuga is composed by: Claudia, Mia, Jaione, Eva, Julian, Ari Malou, Ana, Adri, Hugo, Valentín, Antxon, Mayte, Baldesca, Isaac, Mónica, Ángela, Javi, and many other turtles who accompany us and support us virtually and in person with their hands.
We are a diverse group of people who have chosen to stop and listen to the earth.
We bring experiences in permaculture, bioconstruction, art, open-source education, and community life. We are committed to rebuilding what is possible, step by step, stone by stone.
Many of us already live on the earth, and all of us actively participate in the process. Over the past few years, we have accompanied and inhabited other collective projects, which gives us a solid foundation of learning, tools, and vision.
Villanueva de Fios welcomes us! Now we want you to be part of this return to the origins.
