Es contractarà una persona 15 hores a la setmana per desenvolupar les tasques següents: gestió dels correus i trucades, organització d'agenda d'assessoraments i activitats i comunicació i xarxes socials. Persona de suport
Aquesta persona estarà contractada 6 mesos si només assolim el finançament mínim del projecte. Si assolim l'òptim la contractarem un any sencer. HELP US MAKE THE TENANTS’ UNION A REALITY!
The situation has become unsustainable. The city of Barcelona and its metropolitan area are suffering a new housing bubble, this time in rental housing, which is pushing residents out of their neighborhoods and makes immediate collective action essential to stop the spiral. We can’t wait any longer. After months of working quietly behind the scenes, we’re asking you to lend us a hand, to join us and to take on the huge challenges we’ve set ourselves against opponents with vast resources, whom we can only fight together.

WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
In Barcelona, 30% of residents rent their homes. This figure, well above the Spanish average, is still far from other European cities such as Berlin, Amsterdam or Paris, where rentals account for more than 60% of homes and are a life choice far better protected by law. In Barcelona, 83% of evictions result from the application of the Urban Leases Act (LAU), and while the average rent exceeds €800, one in three people earns less than €843.
At the Tenants’ Union, we understand that the rental problem isn’t only the result of a law that works against tenants’ rights. We also want to fight this new bubble attacking our city, driven by abusive rent increases (of more than 9% last year). This speculative practice in rental housing is taking place in a context of widespread precarity in living conditions, which goes back a long way but has worsened over the last ten years. At the Tenants’ Union, we’re committed to guaranteeing the social function of housing by firmly defending its residential use over the economic or speculative use that is driving us out of the city. That’s why we’re fighting against the tourist pressure and gentrification that are pushing us out of our neighborhoods.
WHY DO WE NEED A UNION?
Unions that bring together people who rent already exist in several European and world capitals, and they are the tool that allows tenants to organize. In our neighborhoods, this tool is even more necessary, since the real estate market has gained unprecedented influence over housing deregulation. The Tenants’ Union was born as a cross-cutting initiative with a clear collective political consciousness: people organized horizontally, seeking personal empowerment and collective commitment. We want to bring together residents who rent or want to rent, whether in private or public housing, building a joint defense of tenants’ rights, offering individual and collective advice and influencing the political agenda through actions and mobilizations.
WHAT WILL THE UNION DO?
Through organizing and mobilization, we want to bring tenants together to denounce real estate abuses and speculative practices.
We want to respond to growing rental-related needs through advice services (individual and collective) that empower us with knowledge of our rights and obligations and of the contractual terms of our leases.
We’ll join tenant movements in each neighborhood, rooted in local community organizations, and help build them wherever they don’t yet exist.
We’ll mobilize to support people facing eviction and stop evictions where no alternative housing is offered.
We want to influence the current Urban Leases Act (LAU), which leaves tenants unprotected, and to control rent increases and prices. We want a tax system that works in tenants’ favor.
We’ll open channels of negotiation with the public administration, property owners’ associations, real estate agents (APIs), property managers, real estate groups, SOCIMIs (Spanish real estate investment trusts) and large property holders such as banks.
WHEN WILL WE DO IT?
On May 12, we publicly launched the Union after months of quiet work by many activists and organizations committed to social rights. From now on, we want to join forces and provide the union with the human and material resources needed to take on the challenges we’ve set ourselves. All of this will be possible thanks to your support, so we thank you in advance and encourage you not only to contribute financially, but to speak up and join us!
Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign
The Tenants’ Union organizes its work around two main areas:
A. Advocating for renting as a dignified, affordable and stable alternative to homeownership. Through mobilization and empowerment, we aim to raise public awareness and drive a substantial change in the rental market, with a new, fairer and more socially oriented legal framework for renting primary residences.
B. Offering services that respond to everyday problems: group workshops, legal and technical advice, and mediation.
The Union is born with the aim of being one more player in the defense of the right to housing, and specifically in defending the interests of tenants, a group that currently has no specific organization of its own.
Why this is important
There are more and more of us tenants: the era of the homeownership boom is over. Renting is a reality that’s here to stay. 30% of Barcelona’s population rents, and this means living in a situation of housing vulnerability. Real estate abuse happens in every neighborhood and affects a wide range of people.
Goals of the crowdfunding campaign
We want to bring tenants’ strength together to stop real estate abuse and to demand legislative change and control of the rental market.
In the short term, the goal is to build a broad tenants’ movement in the city and stand up to abuse by landlords: to denounce sky-high prices and abusive rent increases, and also to resolve questions and problems through advice.
In the long term, we’ll fight for changes to the law in favor of tenants and for rental market regulation that doesn’t push residents out of the city.
The Tenants’ Union is made up of people and organizations committed to fair rents and to fighting real estate abuse. So far, the founding group has worked in committees: communications, organizing, narrative and data, services, and crowdfunding. This last committee, together with a social media team, will coordinate the Goteo campaign. We’re all volunteers, but we’re very enthusiastic about the project and have the support of organizations and movements with previous experience in crowdfunding.
