Queridos amigos,
Dear Friends,
Thank you very, very much, we made it!
A few weeks ago when we started the crowdfunding campaign for Sultanas dream I couldn’t imagine the great personal benefit (beyond the financial satisfaction) that this campaign brought to me. Having to adapt to a communication and funding procedure that is based on social exposure has been for me an intensive and conflictive experience. Being used to work on my own and to have control over each and every word, line, and flicker, the dynamics of a crowd funding campaign has shown me to trust the team members as well as my own instinct. I had to overcome my social fears, artistic insecurities and assume full responsibility towards the project and towards you, supporters, donors and collaborators of the project.
The trip to India was a unique opportunity to get in contact with different group of woman as well as to find my own place in the story-experience.
On a cold and rainy December 16th, I was traveling with Sudhanya back to Delhi, we had just finished a field trip to Vrindavan where we had spent a couple of days visiting several ashrams and homes that take care of widows. We were getting close to Delhi and the traffic was slow and congested. We got stuck somewhere in a new neighborhood where everything seemed under construction. A make shift market grew spontaneously at the feet of a great crane. The ground was slippery and puddles of water grew here and there. A playful young couple stood out among the greater chaos. They were jumping avoiding the puddles, laughing at each successful leap, touching and caressing each other. I thought to myself, this is lovely, things are changing.
Meanwhile, somewhere not far away form this place a woman was dragged to an inferno of violence and found her death in the hands of 5 beasts.
The answer was blunt, and conclusive, woman have stand up to their rights. In India as well as worldwide, attitudes are changing. As much for Indian woman as for myself, I realize I share with them a conflicting education that praises practices based on resignation, modesty and discretion as well as the desire to know more, to learn, to be independent and to be productive, those last issues traditionally reserved for males.
The campaign goes on.
Thank you for your great support an generosity
