General information

In Andalusia, 6% of landowners own 66% of the land, while there are still more than half a million peasant laborers landless. The unequal distribution of land is one of the bases of the great inequality, social injustice and impoverishment existing in Andalusia, which put it at the top of all the negative rankings of poverty, precariousness and unemployment at European level.

Of the 8 provinces that compose Andalusia, Jaén is the one that has the most unemployment, 31% at the moment. It is a province dependent on agriculture, especially monoculture of the olive grove. The economic crisis of 2007 made the banks to repossess large fams to construction companies that have invested in land, either to diversify activities or to speculate with the land in urban operations.

One of these farms was the farm of the Cortijo del Aguardentero and the hillside of the Cerro de San Cristóbal. A farm of 75H, 65 of them of olive grove in the municipal term of the city of Jaén. In 2012 the bank BBVA seized the property to its owners for defaults of a debt of about 3 million euros. Since then the farm has been abandoned to its fate: the olive was not collected, it was not created a single job or a liter of oil, the cortijo (typical house of the Andalusian countryside) was deprived, doors, windows, cables .. all. The absolute abandonment.

On March the 30th 2016, the SAT trade unionist Andrés Bódalo, a native of a town in Jaén, Jódar, was imprisoned in a lawsuit on the occasion of an action claiming work and land for his people, the village with more landless of Andalusia, 3500 of a population on 2012.

On April the 1st, 2017 after an intense year of struggle for Andres freedom, from SAT we decided that the best way to remember that he had been in prison for a year was to do what he did when he was free: to occupy land and recover it for the people. So we did, and that's how we spent half a year giving life to what before the greed and speculation of the bank had only brought abandonment and ruin.

It would not have been possible to face this half a year without the solidarity of so many people who have contributed materially, economically and humanely to Cerro Libertá project. Now we face the campaign of the olive and it takes another tide of solidarity to help us equip ourselves with all the tools and means necessary to collect the fruits that will give the precious liquid gold.
That is the reason for this crowfounding, make possible to produce oil, in a free land, lived in freedom.

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign

This crowfounding helps a part of what would be the general project of Cerro Libertad: the collection of olives. But the project goes further since it deals with the agroecological integral management of the farm, and this means diversifying the crop (other tree crops such as fruit trees, almonds or pistachios, orchards, etc.) and adding other activities such as beekeeping or livestock. But at the present time the main source of wealth is the olive grove. A very deteriorated olive grove for 5 years of abandonment, but with capacity to produce.

The main strength and difference at the same time is to be the largest land recovery in Europe against bank speculation, it must therefore be a project that can not be ignored by those who believe that the common good must rule the world and not the logic of profit for a few and poverty for many .

Why this is important

The motivation is to build an Andalusia and a fair world with the common goods in the hands of the workers and the people and not in the hands of the bank. The project is aimed at anyone who shares this ideal of justice and freedom. To those who also think that the production of something as basic as food must be in the hands of peasants and not of banks and transnationals that only seek their own benefit, although that is a cost of hunger and the health of humanity

Goals of the crowdfunding campaign

Obtain the necessary resources to be able to acquire the tools that are required to collect the olive and produce the oil of the 7052 olive trees that are in Cerro Libertad

Team and experience

Cerro Libertad has rural workers, and people who have also worked in other sectors. It coincides in the same people activists and unionists of the SAT. Some of them participate in other campaigns of collective financing like the Historical File of Peasants Struggles, realized in 2015.
