General information

We are the Legolàctics, a team of six young people between 12 and 17 years old who share a deep passion for science, technology, and the planet. We’ve been participating in the First Lego League for 7 years.

This year, our project OceansLife aims to preserve the marine ecosystem by enabling the monitoring of marine biodiversity through environmental DNA. This project has won the National Innovation Award and has qualified us for the Florida Sunshine Invitational International Open (USA). We are excited to share this adventure and show how young talent can bring real ideas to transform the world and improve the health of the oceans!

To get there, we need your support! With this campaign, we aim to introduce our project to companies or research centers that may be interested in implementing it. We also want to develop and promote our OceansLife game to raise awareness among other young people and the general public about the importance of preserving our oceans. Any contribution brings us a step closer to our dream. Will you help us?

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign

This project is born from the effort, passion, and creativity of six young people between the ages of 12 and 17 who have been participating in the First Lego League for 7 years. Our project OceansLife, winner of the National Innovation Award, has allowed us to qualify for the Florida Sunshine Invitational International Open (USA).

OceansLife is a system created by us that allows for the monitoring of marine biodiversity through environmental DNA and environmental data such as temperature, salinity, and pH. What makes this project unique is that it is a citizen science project: it aims to involve the public, such as schools or diving centers, in the installation and maintenance of OceansLife stations along the coast. This makes it an educational and participatory tool with the potential to foster critical thinking, social responsibility, and active care for the oceans. Additionally, our project has been developed with the guidance of experts and in collaboration with universities and research centers.

🎯 Project Objectives

  • Raise awareness of OceansLife and the value of environmental DNA in protecting the oceans
  • Promote scientific and technological vocations among young people
  • Bring citizen science and marine sustainability closer to children and families
  • Represent our region and highlight young talent
  • Share an educational and transformative experience with teams from around the world
  • Participate in the Florida Sunshine Invitational International Open (USA)

Why this is important

This project is born from the desire to put science and technology at the service of the planet, and to demonstrate that the creativity and commitment of young people can generate innovative and useful ideas for everyone.

Our motivation is twofold:

  • On one hand, we want to bring OceansLife to society as an educational tool for schools, diving centers, museums, or organizations working for the protection of seas and oceans.
  • On the other hand, we want to continue learning and growing as young scientists by participating in the Florida Sunshine Invitational International Open (USA), where we will share OceansLife with teams from all over the world.

The project is aimed at all those committed to:

  • The protection of the environment and marine biodiversity
  • The promotion of science and technology among young people
  • Transformative and participatory education
  • Supporting young talent and its capacity for social impact

With this campaign, we aim to reach teachers, ocean lovers, educational communities, scientific organizations, and all those who, like us, want to build a more sustainable and collaborative future.

Team and experience

We are the Legolàctics, a team of six young people aged 12 to 17 who have been participating in the First Lego League for 7 consecutive years, learning to come up with creative solutions to real-world challenges with social and environmental impact. We are part of the Children's and Youth Section of the Excursionist Center of Llinars del Vallès, and we combine our passion for science and technology with values such as teamwork, responsibility, honesty, and inclusion.

Over the years, we have developed projects such as:

  • SeaPower – a system to generate energy from ocean waves
  • RailPost – a logistics proposal to transport goods through the railway network
  • MountainArt – a tactile and interactive model that turns environmental data into art using artificial intelligence

Our latest project, OceansLife, has been developed with the support of experts from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Institute of Marine Sciences of the CSIC, and the University of Girona, and was recognized with the National Innovation Award at the national FLL finals.

The team also benefits from the support of families, volunteer coaches, and technological resources such as laser cutters, 3D printers, and microcontrollers, thanks to collaboration with entities like UAB Open Labs.

We are a small team, but we are highly committed, with great adaptability, teamwork skills, and the ability to enthusiastically present our project. We are ready to take on this challenge and take OceansLife even further!
